History of the Church
Abundant Life Christian Center began as a Baptist Sunday School in the Piscatawaytown section of Edison, NJ during the 1850’s. In the early 1950’s, Piscatawaytown Baptist Church became a legal and incorporated church with the blessing, and under the watchful eye, of Stelton Baptist Church.
In 1982, the pulpit committee of the Piscatawaytown Baptist church extended a call for the Rev. Scott Walsh to come and try to revive a twenty-member dying church. In 1986, the church voted to have a non-denominational name, while still retaining a relationship with the American Baptist Churches of the USA. The name chosen was Abundant Life Christian Center. In August of 2000, the church officially voted to relinquish affiliation with the American Baptist Churches, and affiliate with DOVE Christian Fellowship International.
In 2005, Abundant Life Christian Center conducted a feasibility study to determine if the congregation was in favor of a possible move. Many people in the congregation realized that our inability to expand on our property and inadequate facilities for our ministries left few alternatives but to move. In March of 2006, we began negotiations with the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Edison for the sale of our property. At the same time, we located a property that far exceeded everything we needed; a 58,250 sq. ft. office building on a main highway in exactly the area we were looking to move. On June 10th, 2007, we sold our old building and on July 6th, 2007, we successfully purchased our new property.
Since buying our new building, we renovated our whole interior space and on August 30th, 2009, we held our first church service here. This is an exciting and blessed time for our church! We believe that this move will allow us to expand our ministries and help us reach out to more people. Our goal is not to develop an elaborate church building, but a functional facility, designed to serve our congregation’s needs and minister to the community.
